My beach is better than yours

Yesterday, I most definitely practised what I preach!

Let me tell you how ...

If you want to have a happy brain, there is a really simple, easy thing you can do regularly which costs you nothing and will have a really big impact on your brain health.

It is a powerful yet often overlooked practice that can transform the health of your brain – the art of resting your mind.

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to believe that relaxation includes watching TV, scrolling through social media, or even multi-tasking. But true rest for your mind means something deeper and more enriching.

It involves giving your brain the space to unwind, to detach, and to simply be.

Studies have shown that time spent doing nothing—free from digital distractions—can have profound benefits on brain health, especially for women over 40. Here’s why it’s so impactful:

  1. Boosts Creativity and Problem-Solving: Allowing your mind to daydream or wander boosts your creativity. It creates a fertile ground for new ideas and solutions that might not emerge when you’re constantly distracted.

  2. Reduces Stress Levels: When you unplug and allow your mind to rest, stress hormones decrease. This leads to lower anxiety levels and a more peaceful, balanced emotional state.

  3. Prevents Cognitive Decline: Regular mental breaks help to protect against cognitive decline and dementia. Your brain uses these moments of silence to perform essential housekeeping tasks that keep it functioning optimally.

Many of us feel like we should be doing something all the time, and we feel guilty if we aren't being 'busy'

This week, I challenge you to find pockets of your day where you can unplug and nourish your mind.

Your brain works hard for you every moment—gift it the rest it deserves.

Silence your phone, turn off the TV, make yourself your favourite hot drink, and just let your brain do nothing!

Embrace these moments of calm, and watch how they improve your overall mental and emotional well-being.

Remember to check out and follow me on socials - you'll see how I rested my brain yesterday in one of my favourite places!
