5 Things Every Woman Needs to Know About Her Brain Right Now

Every Friday I share five things about brain health that I believe every woman - and man - deserves to know. Not to frighten you. But because understanding this genuinely changes everything.

01

Women account for nearly two thirds of all Alzheimer's cases.

And it's not simply because we live longer. Female biology, hormonal shifts across a lifetime, and the chronic, relentless stress that most women carry, these are all factors that make our brains uniquely vulnerable. This is not fate. But it is a fact we cannot keep ignoring.

02

Brain changes begin up to 20 years before any diagnosis.

Which means your 40s and 50s are not too early to act, they are exactly the right time. The brain at this stage is still highly responsive and remarkably adaptable. What you do today is quite literally shaping what your brain looks like at 70. That's not a warning. That's an invitation.

03

Chronic stress is one of the biggest modifiable risk factors for cognitive decline.

Not genetics. Not bad luck. Stress. The kind most of us have been swimming in for years without even noticing. If you've been experiencing brain fog, poor sleep, or a creeping sense that your sharp edges are becoming blurry, that is not you getting older. That is a stress response that has got stuck. And it can be changed.

04

The women most at risk are often the ones least likely to prioritise themselves.

High-achieving, high-responsibility women who hold everything and everyone together. Women who are brilliant at caring for others and completely out of practice at caring for themselves. Taking care of your brain is not indulgent. It is not selfish. It is the most strategic, clear-headed thing you will ever do.

05

The single biggest predictor of change is simply starting.

Not the perfect plan. Not the right moment. Not waiting until life calms down (it won't). Just starting, with the right information, and the right support. The women I work with don't wait for calm. They decide that this is the moment. And everything shifts from there.

You have far more power over your brain's future than you have ever been told. The research is clear. The window is open. And you are not too late.

Not perfect. Better. Always working towards. That's everything.
